Javea is a wonderful mixture of old and new.
There is the historical old town with its fortified church, narrow streets and weekly markets.
Then you have the original fishing port, now much enlarged, where you can find the fish auction, the yacht club and harbour, along with beachside cafes and restaurants. There is also an extraordinary modern church with a ceiling fashioned, in wood, after a boat's hull.
The Arenal beach area is where you will find all the things you expect of a holiday resort, such as: sandy beaches, pedal boats, sun beds, volley ball nets, showers, toilets etc. Javea is annually awarded several European blue flags for its facilities. As the most easterly point of mainland Spain, facing out to the Mediterranean, Javea is the first to greet the sunrise and then is rewarded with a wonderfull sunset as the sun disappears below Montgo, the mountain affectionately known as Elephant Mountain, which stands guard over Javea.
